3.15 Electrical interface in the T5

The electrical interface offers the opportunity of making certain analogue signals / potentials available for special electrical equipment that would otherwise only be connected via the CAN BUS and thus need considerable time and effort for connection.

The customer advantage is that a wide variety of electrical signals from the function electronics can be detected from a very easily accessible place inside the vehicle. These signals can be used for individual purposes depending on customer requirement.

These signals may only be manipulated by authorised specialist personnel.
Improper intervention can lead to damage on or in the vehicle as well as loss of the operating permit.

It is essential that the following points are observed:

  • Various VDE (Association for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies) guidelines for layout and installation of electrical wiring and components (cable cross sections, fuses, etc.)
  • Only components (wiring, housings, contacts) approved by Volkswagen may be used for adaptation to the onboard supply system.
  • Only VW-typical potential designations are to be used
  • Since connected additional devices are unknown, the user of the interface must be assured a regulated current supply
  • It is not know what additional devices will be connected, therefore the user of the interface must guarantee a balanced current system. Order additional battery PR no. 8FB for this purpose.
  • The EMC safety for connecting behind the interface is the responsibility of the user.
  • The wiring diameters of the interfaces are to be adhered to in the complete circuit, i.e. no changes to the diameter after the interface
  • Feeding into the onboard supply system may only be carried out using potentials specifically designed for this purpose and is to be safeguarded externally in accordance with VDE requirements. The reference potential is always the positive potential of the starter battery
  • Additional information can be gleaned from the customer service documents
  • Electrical wiring that has to be interrupted to realise special functions (e.g. brake light deactivation, start inhibitor, etc.) must be protected safely against short circuits to battery + and body earth.

General notes:

  • The potentials indicated relate to the vehicle body earth in all cases. The earth stud in the left seat box is to be used as a preference
